With just under a week until the band hit our shores in support of their latest album ‘American Candy’ we reached out to The Maine and asked them what their Top 10 Essentials were for touring and also what songs/artists influenced them whilst making ‘American Candy’. Check out their responses below and make sure you don’t miss out on one of their shows (Dates Below).
10 Essentials List, prepared by Kennedy.
Medicine – inhaler for asthma, yes I’m a nerd.
Foreign Money -usually change saved from past trips.
Room in the Suitcase – to return home with trinkets.
Photo/video of my Pup – in case I need a pick-me-up.
Headphones/Music – plenty of music. Currently using Gregory Allen Isakov’s tunes to sleep to.
Book – anything written by Bukowski.
Camera – now replaced with my iPhone
Weather Appropriate Clothing – it’s winter time here at home and I’m ready for more summer in Australia.
“Playlist of songs that inspired the album”. Completed by John.
It’s hard to really say what exact tunes inspired the writing process for American Candy, but I do know that the mentality of certain artists definitely shaped some of the way we as a band think. A common characteristic we’ve found throughout the artists we dig is the unwillingness to compromise any integrity for anything or anyone. Below is a list of cats that we really look up to and that most likely subconsciously crept into the writing process for our most recent release.
NEIL YOUNG – “Down By The River”
NEW RADICALS – “Flowers”
THIRD EYE BLIND – “10 Days Late”
TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS – “Refugee”
THE REPLACEMENTS – “Unsatisfied”
ROLLING STONES – “Start Me Up”
RYAN ADAMS – “Halloweenhead”
DAVID BOWIE – “Fame”
NIRVANA – “Heart Shaped Box”
TALKING HEADS – “Burning Down The House”
