Interview – Analogue Sunset + Stream

Stream ‘Dressed To Kill’ below.

Who are you and what are you doing here??)

I’m Analogue Sunset. I’ve made hundreds of songs that no one has heard but my mum. Now that I have a manager I’m hoping to get my music heard by at least one other person.

When did you know you wanted to pursue music as a career?

I think it was the first time I listened to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ soundtrack for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I used to have that album on repeat.

I started fooling around on Garageband and just fell in love with music. The ability to create a specific feeling and sense of time and place from sound is something that drives me.

How would you describe your music?

Cinematic, layered, evocative, dark.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your sound which one would it be?

Dressed to Kill is the only song I’ve released officially so far, so let’s go with that one.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets you apart from the rest?

My other passion is filmmaking, and I think because of that I try to bring a different approach to making music. For me visuals and sound have always been totally linked. When I’m picturing a video, I’m picturing a specific sound or piece of music that goes with it. Likewise, when I’m making music I like to think of a certain space or imagery that I’m trying to evoke.

Where are people able to hear your songs?

I’m up on Soundcloud, Spotify and Itunes as “Analogue Sunset”.

Are you playing any shows anytime soon?

I’m focussing more on writing at the moment, so nothing in the immediate future. I sometimes play average sounding DJ sets at bars, so keep an eye out for those.

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a musician?

I wrote a cover of ‘Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby” by Cigarettes After Sex, which the band actually complimented me for. I’m a big fan of them so that was pretty cool.

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

My good friend who makes beautiful ambient pieces and delicate soundscapes.

Cute Whore

Two ex-Degrassi cast members that now have a sexy synth band. I can’t stop listening to these guys.

These two don’t have much out at the moment, but they’re definitely an act to follow. Some very dreamy, nostalgic sounds from some very talented people.

Anything Else you’d like to add?

Go see A Ghost Story when it comes out in theatres. Definitely the best film I’ve seen this year. A mind blowing meditation on the nature of time. Rooney Mara is my queeen.
