Interview – Audio Poets

Who are you and what are you doing here? (what is your name, what is the band and what is your role in the band?)

We are Chris Durio (Vocals) and Mike Knight (Bass/Vocals) from Audio Poets.

How did the band start?

We started in late 2014. It was just Chris and the former guitarist Mario Mitchell. We wrote some tunes together and demo’d them all out. We decided to give our project a name and Audio Poets just stuck with us because of the vibe of the tracks. We brought in guitarist Bru Whitley and went on a short acoustic run up the east coast and played a festival in Texas called South By So What?!, now called So What?! Music Festival. Now a year later, we have an adjusted line up (including Mike Knight, James Hyatt, and Landon Jett) and our first debut album, Make a Scene.

How would you describe your band?

We are a mix of punk, rock, and rap.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be?

Probably Do You Feel It (Now). Mainly because the lyrics strongly stress our attitude toward people who bully and bring us down. No one wants a fake friend.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?

Definitely our diversity. We have a wide range of influences including Rage Against the Machine, Panic! At the Disco, Twenty One Pilots, Blink-182, and Marilyn Manson. We really show no limit as to how far you can push a band of our genre.

Where are people able to hear your songs?

A: You can pick up our debut album, Make a Scene, on iTunes. You can also jam it on any online music platform (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, etc).

Are you playing any shows anytime soon (if you live outside of Australia, do you have any plans for a trip down under)?

A: We have an acoustic show coming up in Tyler, TX on December 4th. We’re mainly focusing on our live set right now, but will be show ready next year. We do have several shows set up in March and a U.K. tour which is being booked right now. As far as Australia goes, we don’t have anything planned as of yet, BUT, in time we will definitely plan an Australian tour.

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a band?

Getting this debut album released for the whole world to hear!

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

Shout out to our homies from Dallas, Drudge! Also, take a listen to Dear You and Mariner, two up and coming bands on Third String Records.
