Who are you and what are you doing here??)
Who knows what we’re doing here?! What is life?? Who am I? Sometimes I just try and block those deep meaningful questions.
When did you know you wanted to pursue music as a career?
I can probably speak on behalf of the band, growing up we all dove into music as nothing else really spoke to us in a spiritual way that music does. For me personally, I wasn’t very great at anything else in school, in some ways it was my only option.
How would you describe your music?
In a live setting we’re very much a rock act, blended with buckley-esk moments and fuzzy guitars. But I guess you could call us ‘art rock’, introducing new elements into the music, such as our soon to be released horn inspired EP.
If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your sound which one would it be?
So far our single ‘Love your man’ paints the best picture about us, showing off our explosiveness, quirkiness and how we’re a bunch of hopeless romantics.
In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets you apart from the rest?
We’re all full time musos, it‘s our bread and butter. There’s been years of us chipping away at our craft as well as years of gigging and touring under our belt. We’re very passionate and serious about our live performances and new material. Constantly trying to out do ourselves from the last gig and with each new song we write.
Where are people able to hear your songs?
Our debut single ‘Love Your Man’ will be out on Spotify and iTunes on June 2nd. The EP ‘Billy Billy’ will be released on June 30th on all platforms.
Are you playing any shows anytime soon?
We’ve got a couple of shows in our home town, one supporting Bootleg Rascal before we hit the road up the east coast in July! We’re really excited about our tour and bringing our songs around Australia.
31 May – Ed Castle | Adelaide
2 June – Jive (Suppoting Bootleg Rascal) | Adelaide
1 July – Grace Emily Hotel (EP Tour) | Adelaide
7 July – Whole Lotta Love (EP Tour) | Melbourne
13 July – Radbar (EP Tour) | Wollongong
14 July – The Townie (EP Tour) | Sydney
What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a musician?
Working as a muso is a weird thing, months can be slow and nothing much can be happening. However there’s moments when your schedule can be so packed you don’t have time eat slowly. Those are great moments for me, knowing that I’m doing something I love, being productive, like it’s a regular day job.
Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?
These 3 acts are all local guys and some of Adelaide’s absolute best!
The Winter Gypsy are just beautiful. The six piece provide super catchy melodies, haunting vocals and captivating presence. It also helps that they’re a bunch of humble guys. They’re great at blending intimate folk moments, to then build and expand into huge walls of sound and epic solos.
Wanderers show off their complex musicianship and ability with their blues/soul inspired tunes. I’ve always been captivated by how amazing the lead singer Dusty-lee can just shred and make it look easy. They also just finished a tour promoting their new EP ‘Something of a distraction.’ I’m keen to see what’s in store for them next.
The Donnarumma boys and I played a cute little gig with Attila My Honey a couple of months ago and they were awesome. The band has great energy and a very Fleetwood mac inspired sound (which is the best kind of sound).
