Who are you and what are you doing here? (what is your name, what is the band and what is your role in the band?)
I’m Jack from Fan Girl, and I am a co-songwriter, producer, CEO, Spiritual Advisor, Creative Coordinator, Dietician, Careers Counsellor, Band Stylist, General Practitioner, Accountant & Media Mogul for the band.
How did the band start?
Vince and I had started working on some songs with a project in mind and ended up with an album of instrumentals that we were really happy with. After looking for a singer for a really uncomfortable amount of time, we got in contact with Noah, and finished off the record together. I guess it was kind of a weird setup, having the music done, and then bringing in vocals after. We put the live band together with the album in mind, and we are super happy with the record, as well as our live show.
How would you describe your band?
Energetic guitar rock you can take home to your religious grandma.
If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be?
Out Again – one of the last songs off the album, just because it is a overambitious patchwork of intertwined guitars and catchy vocals.
In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?
What sets the band apart is what sets each member apart, 6 very different musical backgrounds, styles and tastes. Also, our bass player is 6’6”
Where are people able to hear your songs?
Are you playing any shows anytime soon (if you live outside of Australia, do you have any plans for a trip down under)?
We are playing some VIC shows with British India and Ecca Vandal throughout November, and we have a little Christmas surprise for all our Melbourne friends.
NOV 9 – Karova Lounge, Ballarat
NOV 10 – 170 Russell, Melbourne
NOV 11 – The Wool Exchange, Geelong
NOV 24 – Karova Lounge, Ballarat
NOV 25 – Corner Hotel, Melbourne
What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a band?
Aside from finishing our record, I’m pretty proud of how well we orchestrated our album cover. That was a task in which we had no experience in at all, but we had a vision and went for it, and it’s really great.
Supporting childhood heroes The Vines was pretty special, as was playing The Enmore Theatre with Catfish & The Bottlemen. We have been really lucky thus far.
Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?
ESC also put out one of the best albums of the year a couple months back, so check that out too!
Anything Else you’d like to add?
Eat your vegetables and be kind to one another.
