Interview – Georgia June + Video

Watch the video for ‘Broke’ below.

Who are you and what are you doing here? (what is your name, what is the band and what is your role in the band?)

Hiii! My name is Georgia and I front the band Georgia June! In the band there is Joe Plunkett- Bass, Jack Johnston- lead guitar, Lewis Mosley- synths and guitar and James Spittaler- drums. My role in the band however, is to get coffees, carry the pedal board and when I decide the time is right to get my Ps, I will most likely become designated driver.

How did the band start?

I always knew I wanted this project to be a band, so it seemed quite natural to form one when I felt I had strong recordings and a clear idea of the direction of the project. I went to High School with Lewis and we always got along really well, then I met Joe who introduced me to Jack and James. I had no idea at the time, but all of us go to the same university which is super handy, we all get along really well, it’s like one big happy family.

How would you describe your band?

Energetic, fun, a little bit strange- in a nice way. Our music is 80s rock with pop punk influences, inspired by bands like Talking Heads, Blondie, Divinyls and artists like Prince. We try and make every gig we do stronger every time and really pride ourselves on a good live show, we love it heaps so we genuinely enjoy every minute of it.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be?

I’d say it’s a song in our set called People Pleaser. We haven’t released it yet, but whenever we play it live I become so emotional lol. It’s a song which musically represents us the most, it has it’s high and lows and it’s very nostalgic. It’s definitely one of my favourites!

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?

I think it’s great that music is so attainable and people now have that easiness of learning it! I would definitely say lyrically our music is very honest and meant to be something I hope people can resonate with. Instrumentally, we combine 80s grooves with pop punk melodies and riffs, we try and make our own sound and hopefully it comes across! Overall though, we just want to make people feel good and happy, and hopefully give them something they can relate to.

Where are people able to hear your songs?

All main streaming services!! Spotify, Itunes, Apple music, Soundcloud, Bandcamp!

Are you playing any shows anytime soon?

Yes! 2nd of November at Low and Lofty’s for Australian Music Week!

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a band?

When Cool was released I was just crying the whole entire day, happy tears of course! I was at work and an hour after it got released Rolling Stones Au wrote about it and I just broke down. I was just so happy!! We have a long way to go till we are where we want to be, but we are so grateful for how people have been receiving Cool and we hope people love the new music too!

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

  1. Parcels
  2. Joan
  3. Sloan Peterson

Anything Else you’d like to add?

I hope you get to eat some ice cream at some point today and I hope you love our new track! xx
