Interview – Izzy Malik

Who are you and what are you doing here??

My name is Izzy Malik, and I’m a 19-year-old pop singer. I’m here to share my music with the world and hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.

How did your music career start?

My music career started when I was five years old. That was when I first decided to become a singer. Ever since then, all I’ve done is work towards achieving that goal.

How would you describe your music?

My musical style could best be described as bubblegum pop with a splash of modern country.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your sound which one would it be?

I think “Just Another Boy”, my first single off my debut EP, best describes my sound. The chorus has a feel-good sound and I love the way the guitar track was laid. I think it’s just a dance-around-your-room kind of song, which is what I’m trying to put out there.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?

I think the fact that I’m bi-cultural and have a pretty unique perspective on life sets me apart, which I believe shows in certain songs I’ve written, like “Malala”, dedicated to the brave young woman who was shot by the Taliban and survived.

Where are people able to hear your songs?

You can buy my debut EP, Izzy Malik, on iTunes or check out my YouTube channel for all upcoming music videos featuring those songs.

Are you playing any shows anytime soon?

Yes, I will definitely be hitting the road later this year.

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a musician?

Definitely my first performance this past February. It was a benefit concert for cancer patients and I was so happy that part of the proceeds from my very first show were going towards helping those who couldn’t get cancer treatment on their own.

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

Hollywood Ending, Before You Exit, and Paradise Fears. All great bands and great guys.

Anything else you’d like to add?

To anyone reading this, remember to keep your life full of peace, love, and music, and to DREAM BIG. Much love xoxo.
