Interview – Josh Cashman + Stream

Stream ‘Beauty In Grey’ below.

Who are you and what are you doing here?

JOSH CASHMANI am a singer songwriter from Melbourne  and I’m writing & recording music, touring around Aus/Internationally & selling denim on the side.

When did you know you wanted to pursue music as a career?

2015, I decided to withdraw myself from my childhood dream (AFL footy) so I could spend more energy and time on music which became my ultimate passion and now my job.

How would you describe your music?

It’s always a hard one to answer. As I songwriter I focus strongly on my lyrics melodically & blend it with a mix of alternative folk, with a touch of electronic textures. I’m enjoying creating with the blend of organic and electronic elements.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your sound which one would it be?

‘Beauty In Grey’ – my latest single. Out of the 6 of my released songs, this one is the representation of where I’m at right now as a songwriter, and will continue to grow from this creation.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets you apart from the rest?

People tell me that my Melodies and hooks in my songs are super strong. This is not something I’ve learnt, it’s just something that has always found its place without to much effort or thought. I’m also creating different types of music via production on the side, I like learning new elements to create any music possible, from acoustics, to techno, to ballads. I like being able to have some knowledge on both sides of performing & recording.

Where are people able to hear your songs?

The World Wide Web! All the usual outlets – Spotify, ITunes, SoundCloud. Sometimes the radio and sometimes in shopping centres or TV shows. And of coarse at my shows.

Are you playing any shows anytime soon?

I’m launching my new single ‘Beauty In Grey’ at The Northcote Social Club on the 4th August. Can’t wait! We played a special sold out show there 2 months ago, can’t wait !

I am also doing a Parlour house show tour with some of my fans, these will be intimate house shows around Australia.

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

Dope Lemon, Frank Ocean & NomBe are my current top played !
