Interview – Kita Alexander

Like You Want To Kita’s debut EP is out this Friday 27 November.

Who are you and what are you doing here??

I’m Kita Alexander. A little small town singer songwriter from Port Macquarie. What am I doing here? Just trying to make epic songs in an epic place.

When did you know you wanted to pursue music as a career?

I knew from a really young age… I just didn’t know how. Until one morning I woke up, had an epiphany and thought yeah I’m going to do this. So I quit school and but all my time and energy into music.

How would you describe your music?

I’d say imagine you’re driving to your most favourite place on earth. You’re eating Tim Tams, the winds blowing in your hair, then you turn on the radio and hear your favourite song. Or just 80’s pop rock.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your sound which one would it be?

It’s called Damage Done. It’s my most cherished song I’ve written so far. The only problem is I’m saving it for something big.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets you apart from the rest?

I don’t think anything sets me apart from the rest. I’m just like everyone who’s ever picked up an instrument. I was just very lucky to stumble into the hands of some amazing people.

Where are people able to hear your songs?

I don’t want to tell anyone what to hear in my songs. Everyone should be able to feel and hear what they like. Listening is a personal and creative space which I don’t think should be infiltrated by others opinions.

Are you playing any shows anytime soon?

Yeah! In Australia. I’m supporting jarryd James and meg Mac on a few shows. I’m so fricking excited.

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a musician?

My proudest moment… Probably getting radio play. That is the most ridiculous thing for me. It actually means my music has life and it’s starting to grow, and that’s exciting.

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

Hmm, I’m not very trendy or hip or onto it when it comes to new music… But I can’t wait for the war on drugs new album. I also know that tears for fears is coming back with a new record.. I’m already loosing it, it’s going to be insane… Oh and I can’t waitttttt to hear what dev hynes does for his new album.

Anything Else you’d like to add?

Have the most beautiful day today and everyday . See ya
