Interview – Les Krills + Video

Check out the video for ‘Old Shoes’ below.

Who are you and what are you doing here? (what is your name, what is the band and what is your role in the band?)

My name is Alain and I am the singer/guitarist in a band called Les Krills.

How did the band start?

Myself and the other member Nick have been mates for a few years. Nick is a film maker and he was having trouble trying to find appropriate music for his videos, so we decided to try and make the music ourselves. After making a couple tracks we thought they sounded alright and decided to make a band.

How would you describe your band?

I guess it’s best described as indie rock with a feel good sort of vibe to it. I don’t know, it’s so hard describing your own music, you always sound dorky haha.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be?

The track which probably sums up our style the most is ‘Money Trees’. Some of the others are a little more rocky and energetic while others are more chilled – so I guess ‘Money Trees’ sits in the middle.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?

Nothing really! There are so many good musicians and bands out their making amazing music, we are just another band. It’s all up to the listener – some styles of music and songs appeal to people in certain ways. Hopefully our music has that effect on some people.

Where are people able to hear your songs?

I think it’s on most of the internet streaming platforms. Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, Apple Music, Soundcloud and so on and so fourth.

Are you playing any shows anytime soon (if you live outside of Australia, do you have any plans for a trip down under)?

I’m off to Mexico for a holiday in 3 weeks for 2 months, so we don’t have anything booked in right now. We will definitely be playing shows later in the year.

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a band?

I guess our biggest achievement so far was recording producing and mixing our EP ‘In Another Life’ ourselves in my little home studio in Byron Bay. It was quite a long process and we were pretty chuffed when we finished!

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

There are so many good up and coming bands around where we live. Check out Seaside (drummer also played on our EP), PLTS and Borneo.

Anything Else you’d like to add?

Hope you enjoy our music.
