Interview – minihorse

Who are you and what are you doing here? (what is your name, what is the band and what is your role in the band?)

My name is Christian and I play the bass guitar for the band minihorse. I am also responsible for the Kind Report.

How did the band start?

Ben attached some electrodes to his face and he had dreams and threw up. What came out was songs.

How would you describe your band?

People often describe us as a mix of a bunch of bands we’ve never listened to. I’d describe us as the sound of the last song of the last prom just before the moon collides with the earth.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be?

“Lemon Iris Beyond Venus”, but no one’s heard it yet.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?

Nothing. The only thing that truly sets bands and artists apart anymore is whether or not you’ve ever heard of them. If you’ve never heard of them, they’re probably the best thing going right now.

Where are people able to hear your songs?

minihorse songs are available on Spotify, iTunes, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Friendship Fever Records, and a variety of other online resources, allowing you to listen in a movie theatre, in the bathroom, or while a loved one is speaking to you.

Are you playing any shows anytime soon?

Yes! We’ll be playing shows throughout SXSW in Austin in a few weeks, followed immediately by a premiere slot at Treefort Fest in Boise. Have a look at our new video for the hit single “Thriller” as well.

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a band?

Getting a 700 strong crowd say “WOO” and “YAY” at us at Bimbo’s in San Francisco.

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

Lately I’m listening to “Goon” from LA, “Beverley” from NYC and “The Ferdy Mayne” also from LA.

Anything Else you’d like to add?

Thank you for paying attention to our band. We hope to see you in Australia some day. We’ll go swimming together.
