Who are you and what are you doing here?
Darcy from Melbourne band My Echo and I am answering your lovely questions.
How did your music career start?
I guess the ‘career’ side of things started when an old band I played in decided we would sign with an ‘independent’ label run by and ‘known’ musical identity. It didn’t last very long…
Now days you can find me spending my time traveling the country with three of the best blokes in the world playing in a band that I love to death called My Echo.
How would you describe your music?
We see ourselves as a punk-rock band with rockabilly undertones. Stuck some where between The Stray Cats and Against Me!
If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your sound which one would it be?
Our new single ‘Lonesome City’ is in my eyes our best work to date. It captures elements of all the personalities within the band and the energy we bring in the live environment.
In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?
This is always a funny question to answer as you can come across sounding like you think you are better than everyone else, which we are not.
We just pride ourselves on writing good, honest music. When we play live is when we really show our strengths. It is where we all love to be most.
Where are people able to hear your songs?
Our latest single ‘Lonesome City’ is available now on iTunes. Our new self-titled EP will be out May 2 through Tentotwo Records, which we are extremely excited about.
Anyone wanting to check out our old EP can head along to our bandcamp page.
Better yet. Head down to one of our upcoming shows and share a beer with us!
Are you playing any shows anytime soon?
We are just about to head out on a national tour to promote the new single. It begins at the Bendigo leg of the Groovin The Moo festival on May 2. From there we will hit Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney finishing up at the Northcote Social Club on May 30. Tickets available now!
What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a musician?
Releasing this new EP will definitely be up there. I am so proud with what we put together as a band. This one was recorded live to tape at Melbourne’s Sing Sing studios with producer Hadyn Buxton. He is a complete master and it was such a great experience.
Tell us 3 bands/artists that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?
Captives from Tassie, Melbourne’s The Sinking Teeth and Waits from Sydney are all amazing bands made up of amazing people!
All are definitely worth a look.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Pre-orders for our new EP are available now through iTunes and tentotworecords.com/myecho/.
