Interview – Peter Nigido

Who are you and what are you doing here??

My name is Peter Nigido and I’m a musician/songwriter from the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. I am excited to be given the opportunity to give readers a little insight on what I’m about…

When did you know you wanted to pursue music as a career?

I fell in love with music and how it made me feel at a very early age. As a child my first introduction to rhythm and melody was through the art of dance. With encouragement from my parents, I took this interest pretty seriously and for a few years I studied at different dance schools. Growing into my teens I felt the urge to shift artistic mediums so I decided to quit dance to learn play the drums, I pursued that for 15 years. It wasn’t until my early 20’s that I made the decision to begin writing and delve into the world of composing (Alternative) electronic music. I also studied Music Production to develop a true understanding of studio recording and audio engineering processes. It’s fair to say I’m still learning.

How would you describe your music?

Sonically, I think it’s emotive and lyrically, I try my best to be metaphorically expressive. I believe it sits some where in between the darker elements of electronic rhythms and cinematic moods.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your sound which one would it be?

It would have to be ‘TOUCH.’ Its the first released single off my coming EP. It’s completely driven by electronic loops and sequenced hooks, cutting through the edge of lyrical darkness in conjunction with an emotional optimistic lift.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets you apart from the rest?

My personal experiences. I apply these experiences into the emotion of my writing; it sets me apart from the rest because they are my own.

Where are people able to hear your songs?

I have a few songs up on Soundcloud at the moment with a collection of new material, songs from my first EP ‘Holding Hands with the Sun’ and a few audio clips of soundtrack work I have composed and recorded over the years.

I have also attached several links (audio and video) to my website so please feel free to check them out.

My EP ‘The Art of Turning a Page’ will also be available to iTunes mid year. Official release date is to soon be announced.

Are you playing any shows anytime soon?

Yeah!! June 25th at Tago Mago. 744 High St, Thornbury. I’ll be on stage at 10pm playing songs off my new EP in its entirety.

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a musician?

The most recent achievement that I’m sincerely proud of is signing a deal with ‘Cultivator Records.’ They are a truly supportive establishment run by industry professionals, assisting me to build confidence within my own ability nurturing my creative outlook and opinions.

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

I’m not really listening to many new bands at the moment however a few rising solo artists that have grabbed my attention not long ago are:

  1. Eves The Behavior
  2. Tash Sultana

All the above artists have a unique approach to delivering an ambient heartfelt style of writing. Exactly what I’m looking for when scoping new music. Complete honesty!!

Anything Else you’d like to add?

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my family, friends, supporters and collaborators for the ongoing inspiration, patience and support through out the making of my EP. Without these guys I would be lost and a great distance from the finish line.
