Interview – Plaid Brixx

CD2-196 edit

Who are you and what are you doing here?

I’m Chris Duggan, the lead vocalist for the band Plaid Brixx, and presumably I’m here to answer your questions!

How did your music career start?

When I first picked up a guitar at age seven, I knew that I wanted to be a musician and I have been doing everything in my power since then to work towards earning a living at that.

How would you describe your music?

I would say it is pop with a razor’s edge of rock and an aftershave of punk. The lyrics are pretty straightforward and we try to make our music as catchy as possible. We also tend to stay upbeat, even when dealing with heavy subject matter.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your sound which one would it be?

I would say our first single “Chemistry” best defines our sound. You can find it on iTunes and the lyric video will be released shortly on YouTube, so you’ll be able to find it there, too.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?

One of the things that sets us apart is our extreme devotion to songwriting and prosody.  We spend a very large amount of time making sure that the lyrics are perfectly matched with the melody lines while also being catchy and fun to listen to.

Where are people able to hear your songs?

iTunes for downloads, YouTube for streaming, or any other fine online music retailers. Our new EP comes out on July 8th, so look for it after that date. It’s also called Chemistry..

Are you playing any shows anytime soon?

We are playing an after-party for the Fashion Meets Music Festival in August in Columbus, OH. We are currently in talks for additional shows regionally.

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a musician?

Meeting Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. He’s one of the best songwriters of all time!

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

Two national acts I have really been digging recently are FIDLAR and Skaters. There’s also a great local Columbus, OH band called Forrest & The Evergreens that I really like. They’re great guys, too, so that helps.

Anything Else you’d like to add?

Thanks so much for your time! Hope to talk to you again soon!
