Interview – Rifleman

Who are you and what are you doing here? (what is your name, what is the band and what is your role in the band?)
I am Richie “dw” Norton from Rifleman. Rifleman is the name given to my solo project. I am the guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer and engineer.

How did the band start?
I started the writing process 3 years ago when I decided to get back into music after a lengthy hiatus. It evolved over the years and now it’s all finished are ready to go!

How would you describe your band?
Melancholy Rock or ROCK! Its really just whatever came out when i was writing. I amassed over 40 songs for this project in that time and chose an album of songs that all made sense with each other. As in had a similar vibe and feel to make a cohesive record.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be?
There’s a song on the album called October Sun… It has a cool dreamy vibe to it and i like to think the band is about mood and subtle expression of emotion. Nothing overblown. This song does that for sure.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?
Well the whole thing comes from inside me. No collaboration with any other musicians. Except for live of course! I don’t think anything sets us apart… it’s a rock album with guitars, drums and vocals… I hope what sets it apart is the quality. But that’s up to others to comment.

Where are people able to hear your songs?
Right now in Early October… You Tube. From Oct 27 this year it will be averrable on all the usually digital platforms and on CD from the webstore.
Are you playing any shows anytime soon (if you live outside of Australia, do you have any plans for a trip down under)?
