Interview – Ross Henry + Music Video

Watch the video for ‘The Deep’ below.

Who are you and what are you doing here? (what is your name, what is the band and what is your role in the band?)

I’m Ross Henry and I’m a Producer / Artist based in Sydney’s inner west.

How did the band start?

Well I’ve been making music for a fair while. I guess you could say I’ve been “developing” over the last few years. I started to take it up a notch around a year ago with a few reworks/remixes followed by the release of my second EP “The Forester’s House”.

How would you describe your band?

I make warm, organic sounding electronic music. Experimental and immersive.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be?

One song? Well my latest tune “The Deep” is the best representation of where I’m at right now. I’m always changing, growing and experimenting with each each new track. I think how I’m defined will always morph as I move forward.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?

If there’s one thing that gives my music it’s own flavour it’s probably my approach. I let my ideas inform the instrumentation or how I manipulate sound in general, not the other way round. I think that’s why I love making electronic music, it’s so boundless and free beyond a lot of genre archetypes.

Where are people able to hear your songs?

Most places. iTunes, Spotify, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Youtube, on the radio sometimes, Pandora, Live shows, Triple J Unearthed. There’s so many different ways people connect with music these days, it’s pretty cool.
A good place to start is my website www.rosshenrymusic.com

Are you playing any shows anytime soon (if you live outside of Australia, do you have any plans for a trip down under)?

I’m celebrating the release of new single “The Deep” at RareFinds #18 at the Oxford Arts Factory In Sydney on August 19th. Super excited for that one!

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a band?

Simply defining myself as an artist and making things. Realizing your actually living and pursuing life in the direction you are passionate about is massive. A lot of people don’t have that. I’m a lucky dude.

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

Three Aussie artists with interesting ideas and sounds I’m currently listening to… D.D Dumbo, Owen Rabbit, The Sticks.
