Check out the video for ‘Safe’ below.
Who are you and what are you doing here?
My name is Sarah Leete, I’m a singer-songwriter in the country/alt-country genre from a small town in North West NSW and I have just released my debut record!
When did you know you wanted to pursue music as a career?
I have wanted to purse a career in music since my early teens but when it came to leaving high school, I didn’t know how to actually make money doing it so I pursued agriculture instead. It wasn’t until I had held a job and then started my own business with singing pub gigs on the side, the I began to see how I could become a full-time independent musician, finally taking the leap in January 2016.
How would you describe your music?
Honest songwriting with a country flavour.
If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your sound which one would it be?
My single Safe. I am striving to be myself and embrace my sound being different. I really love that it embraces the 90s sound as it is what I have grown up with and love listening to, but the lyrics are unmistakably my own.
In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets you apart from the rest?
I like to let my personality shine through in my live performances and interviews and my songwriting is very honest. I believe that everyone is different and I am happy enough to offer myself to the world as I come, I believe being authentic really connects with people and is very refreshing this day and age.
Where are people able to hear your songs?
Everywhere they can get music. They are on the usual digital and streaming platforms, playing on ABC and community radio and I am also touring around Australia in 2018, sure to come to a town near you. And if you are oldschool like me and still listen to CDs, I have my EP for sale on my website (www.sarahleetemusic.com) and to grab at shows.
Are you playing any shows anytime soon?
Yep. I am kicking 2018 off with the Tamworth Country Music Festival. You can find my shows on BandsInTown and Facebook/Website
What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a musician?
It has honestly been such a great journey so far with probably too many to list. I am just happy to make a living out of doing the thing that I love and getting to sing my songs every night in a different town.
Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?
Fanny Lumsden and The Thrillseekers
Sarah Leete (I hear she is pretty good!)
Anything Else you’d like to add?
If you aren’t feeling the best, know that there are people here to help you. Reach out and try and talk about how you’re feeling. Even if it doesn’t make sense in your head, you will be surprised how clear it can become in a conversation and you will feel a heap better for putting it out there. That is how 80% of my songs have come about!
