Who are you and what are you doing here? (what is your name, what is the band and what is your role in the band?)
My name is Ken Murdoch, I’m the vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for Taste.
How did the band start?
Michael and I met during high school and formed a band that went onto become John Farnham’s permanent backing band. (We were good sight readers). We met, now legendary drummer, Virgil Donati through a friend and he went on to become our drummer at the age of 16. Joey Amenta joined the band at 15, left school on the Thursday, Played a pub gig on the Friday, then 2 nights at Festival Hall and then toured NSW for 6 weeks! Six months later we were getting hi rotation radio play! I don’t think Joey even told his school he’d left.
How would you describe your band?
Epic! A cross between Queen and Led Zeppelin. Lots of harmonies, guitars, vocals. Big arrangements.
If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be?
Our new single “I AM GOD” comes close.
In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?
I’m not sure I agree that anyone is able to pick up an instrument, but there’s a certain chemistry that exists in some bands, and I feel that every time I’m in the same room as Joey and Michael. Our new drummer, Damian certainly helps too.
Where are people able to hear your songs?
Our new album is out on iTunes and the CD is available online at www.gosetmusic.com store. It’s a monster album of dark emotions, lyrics that deal with life, death and history. The Best of Taste Remastesr which we released late 2015 and our last album “ROCK IS DEAD” is available on iTunes. They are available at shows too of course.
Are you playing any shows anytime soon (if you live outside of Australia, do you have any plans for a trip down under)?
Next month we are celebrating the release of our fourth album “LIFE ON EARTH” with a CD launch in all major states. Find our dates at www.taste-music.com. The shows will feature a lot of the new album and some of the old favourites. Some of the older recordings.
What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a band?
We played on the banks of the Yarra to 13,000 people. That was pretty amazing and probably the only time we had our seven Marshall stacks turned up to 6! We once had dinner with Freddie Mercury and Brian May. The next day they were on TV wearing our tour T shirts. My song “Breathe”which I wrote for my late brother Ted was used as the NSW Cancer Council theme. That made me feel proud.
Anything Else you’d like to add?
Can’t wait to tour this new album. Check out I AM GOD on youtube.
