Interview – Taylor & The Wild Now

Who are you and what are you doing here? (what is your name, what is the band and what is your role in the band?)
Hey! My name’s Taylor Baker, and my band is Taylor & the Wild Now. I’m the vocals, guitar & banjo for the group.

How did the band start?
I’ve been playing music for a few years now, and I’ve played with several different musicians along the way. I started playing with Drew Walker about a year ago (he’s the current guitar & trumpet player in the band). Our musical styles blended really well, and we’ve been playing and evolving our sound ever since.

How would you describe your band?
I would describe our band as fresh and creative folk-pop with a scoop of indie-soul. We try to write as much as we can, which results in a constantly evolving sound. I love the versatility of music, and I never want to get stuck in a rut of sounding the same.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be?

That’s a tough choice.  I would say either Bewildered because of the eclectic, fun vibe or Firesoul (which isn’t recorded yet) because it’s a crazy combination of upbeat and chill all in one song.  It’s wild…just like us.
In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?

We truly love music and every single aspect that goes into it. What sets our band apart from the rest is that we write from our hearts, and we don’t try to sound like any other artist.  People often tell us how unique and different our sound is. I love that.

Where are people able to hear your songs?

Our single Wanderlust is on iTunes & Spotify. We’re debuting a brand new song on July 22, so look out for that! You can also check out several of our videos on our website – www.TaylorandtheWildNow.com
Are you playing any shows anytime soon (if you live outside of Australia, do you have any plans for a trip down under)?

We have a few shows coming up in Austin, TX.  None scheduled for down under just yet, but a world tour sounds like a good plan to me! I actually lived in Sydney for a year after I graduated high school and loved everything about it. The only thing it’s missing is our music.

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a band?

I would definitely say that making our EP is the greatest achievement thus far.  We put so much time and creative energy into it. We’re all really proud of the final outcome.
Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?
Phox, Boy & Bear, and Shakey Graves.

Anything else you’d like to add?
We’re releasing our self-titled debut EP on August 12, and you can pre-order it on iTunes now!
