Stream The Outdoor Type’s latest single ‘On My Mind’ below

Who are you and what are you doing here??

My name’s Zack. I write songs and perform as The Outdoor Type. I’m here because I’ve just released my new single ‘On My Mind’

When did you know you wanted to pursue music as a career?

My current music career consists of working in a call centre three days a week and recording music in my bedroom so I do often question my ‘career’ choice. I don’t think I’ve ever allowed myself to pursue anything else, I’ve always wanted to do it. It’s a bit debilitating in some ways. Ya know? Get a real job etc..

How would you describe your music?

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your sound which one would it be?

This seems like the obvious answer but probably my new single ‘On My Mind’. I tend to think you get a little closer to what ever it is you’re trying project to the world with each new song.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets you apart from the rest?

To be honest, nothing. I don’t proclaim to particularly unique at all. I do work really bloody hard at it though and I’d hope the time, effort and lets be honest, huge sums of money I’ve poured in to my music is some how reflected.

Where are people able to hear your songs?

The internet.

Are you playing any shows anytime soon?

Yes, I am. I’m launching ‘On My Mind’ at The Grace Darling in Collingwood on Friday the 20th of November. I’m lucky enough to be playing with Alex Lahey and Max Quinn – it’s going to be a cracker.

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a musician?

I don’t think there is a particular moment I can pinpoint. I can think of a lot of music and moments I’m NOT proud of. Maybe to still be writing and releasing music with as much enthusiasm as I did ten years ago. It’s still really exciting. I’m proud of sticking to it.

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

Leah Senior, Tiny Little Houses and General Men. All Melbourne artists and all really bloody good.
