Interview – TIMI TEMPLE + Video

Watch the video for ‘Sands Of Time’ below.

Who are you and what are you doing here?

Hey lords ~ I’m a singer/guitarist from Sydney and I go by the name of TIMI TEMPLE though my mum calls me BaakWaan ~ which is Thai for sugar mouth. (sweet talker)

When did you know you wanted to pursue music as a career?

I’ve loved music all my life, but pursuing it as a career? I guess that happened when I was 7 or 8 years old and discovered that I could go busking… I was pretty shit, but my cuteness factor raked in the coin, I was making $60 an hour and spent it all on warhammer. Cool Kid!!

How would you describe your music?

You remember that 90’s kids show where they got on a yellow bus and time traveled? Well, pretend you got on that bus in 1969, stopped to pickup some passengers in 1979, and then hightail expressed it all the way to 2020. Yep, I’m still on the bus.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your sound which one would it be?

Sticking with this journey theme, I’d have to say my most recent track Sands Of Time. My sound is evolving, growing. I want to have a timeline of music that a listener could start at the top of and see the progression, or a new fan could travel back and see my roots!

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets you apart from the rest?

Easy peasy, anything with strings I shred it. I’m not just talking guitar either… I’m talking banjo, I’m talking chinese zither, I’m talking gypsy lute… if there’s someone out there that can out-string me… well, i’ll drink a beer (i’m allergic and would probs die) (or just get heaps red faced… i haven’t tried a whole one yet…)

Where are people able to hear your songs?

For anyone living on the north shore… i practice really loud so just listen out haha

For anyone not on the north shore… Go find your sweet sugar mouth on spotify or watch my video on youtube!

Are you playing any shows anytime soon?

I’m lucky enough I get to play with my long time friend Kilter on tour, we’re doing Spilt Milk Festival on Nov25th ~ otherwise find me on Facebook or on the bus and ask me about my secret stuff!!

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a musician?

Paying for a parking fine in 10c and 20c pieces collected from busking… the look on their faces was priceless!

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

From obscure to not so…

The Big Ilch – reggae lords and just a bunch of fun

Gang of Youths – when I’m feeling down, this music lifts me right up

The War On Drugs – this is my holiday soundtrack right now

Anything Else you’d like to add?

I’m a huge fan of Malteasers ~ if i was gifted some ~ MVP status achieved
