Interview – Toni & The Stonehearts + Stream

Stream ‘No Turning Back’ below.

Who are you and what are you doing here? (what is your name, what is the band and what is your role in the band?)
My name is Toni, I’m the front woman and chief bus driver for rock band Toni & the Stonehearts.

How did the band start?
I was writing a bunch of pop tunes on track to release a solo pop EP when I hit some hard times. I stepped away from music for w while until I was randomly asked to go on tour with a rock/blues band called ‘Nat Col & the Kings’, I fell back in love with music and more particularly fell in love with the raw expressiveness and band vibe of balls to the wall rock n roll. When I came home off tour all I knew that was what I wanted to do, be on the road sining rock n roll. When I started writing all this stuff just started coming out it was almost cathartic and I called up a few friends to help me finish it off and record…Toni & the Stonehearts was born.

How would you describe your band?
Fun, fast, loud, sassy rock n roll.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be?
No Turning Back which is the first single…it has a really balls to the wall three piece rock n roll sound and was written about the thrills, spills, temptations and chaos of life. It’s essentially about shaking things up and going all out which is kinda where we are at the beginning of this crazy journey.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?
We are a throwback to the live vibe, to that era of rock n roll where people made music that was less about trying to be on trend and more about the audience having a blast of a ride. I just want to make music that makes people feel something. I want to see them have a wild time, break out of the box and boogie. I couldn’t care less about being cool. Give me fun, loud feels any day. Hipster is not the new black.

Where are people able to hear your songs?
Spotify, iTunes, Youtube our shows!!!

Are you playing any shows anytime soon (if you live outside of Australia, do you have any plans for a trip down under)?
We are hitting the road in February with shows in our hometown Sydney, getting down to Melbourne supporting Jeremy Costa band and then also heading up to Newcastle. There’s a couple more in the works too, keep an eye on our website and Facebook.

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a band?
Releasing this single! It may be “a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll” but nobody talks about the massive journey it can take just to reach base camp!!! It’s been a ride of epic blood, sweat and beers just to get to this starting point and it feels like such an achievement to finally get this out. ‘No Turning Back’ is not just a first single for me but a catch cry that now I’ve made it this far there really is “not turning back”.

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?
Georgia June from Sydney…whoa! Distrends from Melbourne. Elko Fields from Brisbane.

Anything Else you’d like to add?
You never know when you’re time is up, love hard, fail big and just leap…if you haven’t had a “no turning back” moment yet then go get one.
