Interview – Vacances

Who are you and what are you doing here? (what is your name, what is the band and what is your role in the band?)
My name is Danny Lannon, I sing in Vacances, and we’re from Brooklyn, NY!
How did the band start?
I started writing the songs back when I lived in San Francisco. I was in an old band called The Frail and had initially started writing this new material that didn’t seem to fit. I showed my friends Allen Davis, Patrick Brown, Nic G. and Dan B and thus Vacances was born.
How would you describe your band?
I’d say we’re a lotta bit 80s and a little bit pop punk. We’ve also heard the term cocaine pop used.
If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be? Out of the 3 songs we’ve released I’d say Only You best represents us as a band. It has the 80s throwback feel with a little bit of the surf feel we like to bring into our songs. We all really love Runaway but I think Only You has the most well rounded sound of the 3.
In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?
We all have years of experience so that really lends a hand in our songwriting. We have an amazing group of people that come from different influences but find the common ground in this band. I also think we’re mixing two sounds in a way that hasn’t been done as frequently. But time will tell.
Where are people able to hear your songs?
You can hear us on iTunes and all streaming services out there (Spoitfy, Applymusic, Pandora, Tidal etc)
Are you playing any shows anytime soon (if you live outside of Australia, do you have any plans for a trip down under)?
We would love nothing more than to play Australia. That would be amazing for us. Currently we’re in writing mode for our next ep (due out this fall). We’ll most likely be doing some shows in Japan/UK/US and would love to come to Australia. Wanna bring us? haha.
What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a band? From a show perspective our first gig was at The Bowery Ballroom in NY so that is pretty lucky in itself. We’ve been getting a lot of great interviews and write-ups lately so thats awesome too. I think all in all though we’re just proud of the music we’re releasing and wanna keep doing it.
Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye outfor?
We’re really big fans of Dear Boy (LA), DYGL (Tokyo), Hazel English (Oakland)
Anything Else you’d like to add?
Keep an eye out for new music this fall!
