Interview – Tuva Finserås + Stream

Stream ‘Pack Of Wolves’ below.

Who are you and what are you doing here?
I’m a Norwegian singer, songwriter and instrumentalist (not the loudest one there is!). My drive in life is to create. I’ve always had a crush on Australia, so I moved here a couple of years ago to pursue a music career.

When did you know you wanted to pursue music as a career?
As a young child I loved playing classical piano and I always knew music had come to stay. When I was around 13 years old, I got very interested in singing and songwriting, then followed my first big fan-crush Michael Jackson, and then I knew I had to be in the creative world professionally.

How would you describe your music?
It can be described as a psychedelic blend between electronic/acoustic sounds and Indie/folk songwriting. It’s usually pretty cinematic and consist of interesting string arrangements. But every song varies. Some songs have a sweeter sound, while others are more dark and arctic.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your sound which one would it be?
I would say my new single ‘Pack of Wolves’. I like that it’s spooky and dark. It’s interesting and you can make it more cinematic, which I really love.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets you apart from the rest?
My vocals are easy to recognize, they are pretty soft and different from a lot of other voices. The arrangements are often interesting or a bit unusual. My songs always have a sturdy theme, but few of them are love songs. I’m interested in psychology and how our brains work, so sometimes my songs can be a bit “psychological”.

Where are people able to hear your songs?
You can listen to the songs on triple j Unearthed on YouTube on Spotify Apple Music or SoundCloud

Are you playing any shows anytime soon?
I’m setting up for a few shows around Melbourne city for the start of the new year.

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a musician?
I’m very proud to be working with Benjamin McCarthy. I know he has been working with big acts such as Gordi, Alex The Astronaut and Nyck. It was sort of a coincidence when he found me. I was so excited when he told me he wanted to work with me, and amazed I was getting that opportunity!

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?
Rachel Caddy is an Indie/folk singer/songwriter. She really has a unique, sweet vulnerable and tender voice, and her songwriting is beautiful and very honest. Reminds me of Birdy!
Creature Fear is also a band to watch out for. They have these really cool riffs, hooky melodies, combined with quirky lyrics and a stage presence of 100% fun.
MANE is another one to keep an eye out for. She has a deep and strong, yet warm voice. I think her sound combined with her melodies are mesmerising.
