Who are you and what are you doing here? (what is your name, what is the band and what is your role in the band?)
Hello! My name is Shaina and I am the lead singer of the band Alabaster.
How did the band start?
On a cold, winter, snowy Chicago night….no I’m kidding. Joe, Kate, and myself began playing music together, as we were all friends. Then we made the decision to head west to Seattle to experience a fresh music scene. It was here that we found Dwayne and Marlon, on Craigslist of all places, and became what we are today.
How would you describe your band?
The Official Sound of Awesome. Haha. Actually, I’m not sure anyone, including us, has described us perfectly yet. We are five passionate musicians struggling to make a living and support our dream. We are a family. We take care of others and each other.
In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?
That’s true, anyone can learn to play an instrument but what set’s us, and all truly aspiring musicians apart, is the burning passion to succeed. Having a full-time job, and then going to band practice 2-4 times a week (depending on your band) is difficult. It’s like having two jobs except you don’t get paid for one. Haha. Getting four or more people to get along, work effectively as a business, and write and complete songs together is difficult. Going on the road is really difficult! Rejection is difficult. All of these things are things we deal with regularly but it’s that passion, the fire inside of us, that keeps us going. Because to us, no matter what, it’s all worth it.
Where are people able to hear your songs?
People can hear our songs a few places such as:
Are you playing any shows anytime soon (if you live outside of Australia, do you have any plans for a trip down under)?
As a matter of fact on May 10th we will be heading out to Yakima, WA for a little weekend excursion. Following that we hope to get up to Arlington, WA and down to Tacoma, WA. I, personally, have been wanting to move to Australia forever and it would be a dream to make it down there!
What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a band?
I believe that there are four moments that have been our proudest. #1 Playing Warped Tour, #2 Opening for Switchfoot, #3 Opening for Yellow Card, and #4 Playing at SXSW.
Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?
#1 – Our good friends in The Material
#2 – Seattle natives : Keeping Secrets
#3 – The best band ever : Michael Bolton
Anything Else you’d like to add?
Tell all your friends!! Without the fans, we are nothing! <3
