Who are you and what are you doing here?
We’re Brother Be. We’re a folk, pop, party machine on a mission to make you happy.
How did the band start?
Pretty organically! Alan (guitar) and Sam (drum) have played together in a lot of different bands. Alan was also dating and living with Lynette (bass). Mike (singer) moved to Canberra and needed a place to live. It turned out Mike made music too, so we all decided to play music together.
How would you describe your band?
A happy version of ‘Of Monsters and Men’.
If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be?
Queen for a Day. It starts quiet and subtle with a little bit of guitar and mandolin, but by the time it’s finished it’s a full blown rock machine.
In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up and instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?
We’re all about the positive vibes, putting a smile on your face. We’re not here to get you down about your life, we’re here to celebrate it. What sets us apart is the infectious good times that we bring to every gig.
Where are people able to hear your songs?
Are you playing any shows anytime soon?
Right now we have the following booked:
24 July – Transit Bar (Canberra)
4 September – Polish Club (Canberra)
24 October – Magpies Club (Canberra, supporting The Go Set)
What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a band?
Releasing our first EP ‘Gone and Gone’ in May 2015 was pretty amazing. The EP launch drew over 200 people and it made for a great night.
