Who are you and what are you doing here? (what is your name, what is the band and what is your role in the band?)
I’m Carrie Phillis, & I sing lead vocals, & co write our tunes, with my band, Carrie Phillis & The Downtown 3.
How did the band start?
We started up a couple of years back, I got together with our guitarist Johnny Casino, & drummer Craig Jackson to see what we could create. Ended up writing quite a few songs rather effortlessly, & pleased with the results that we decided to form a full band, & that’s when we recruited Scotty Nash on bass, who slotted in beautifully. & here we are!
How would you describe your band?
Not really into pigeon holing, but if we had to, our music is a blend of rock n roll & power pop done with swagger, heart & soul.
If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be?
Well, it would have to be the single off our EP I reckon, Spend it with you.
Alot of the tunes we write, have a 60s girl group vocal melody with a rockin’ back beat to it, & Spend it with you is a fine example of our sound complete with the honey coated layered harmonies.
In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?
I think that just sums it up. Every one is able to pick up an instrument these days but its the heart & soul that you put into it, which has nothing to do with technic. We put all of ourselves into our songs & this also comes across when we play live too, as our energy levels are very well matched, & we all get so much joy out of playing music. I think that comes across when we play.
Where are people able to hear your songs?
The EP is available on I tunes, Band Camp, & we did a limited release on 12” black & red vinyl, which is available in select outlets. This also comes with a free digital download.
