I wasn’t sure what kind of audience to expect at this gig and was pleasantly surprised that we had the full gamut from boho teenagers all the way a dads 60th. This band is literally appealing to everyone. The venue was another interesting one, at the new NEX Newcastle conference centre. The venue is new, comfortable and intimate. Four bars, raised seated area and a large roaming dance floor where lets be honest we all want to be!
The opening act was All Our Exes Live in Texas and I’ve gotta say they were funny and extremely talented. They are band of four quirky, talented, individual and beautiful women. This harmonising folk band is made up of Elana Stone, Katie Wighton, Hannah Crofts and Georgia Mooney. Chats between songs had every one giggling and utterly charmed. These girls were down to earth and real. This was the last performance after 4 months on tour and they did not want it to end! The girls have a debut album called “When we fall” coming out in 2017, a pre release is available on Apple Music. My fav song was candles, it’s not on the prerelease but I’ve gotta say I’ll be grabbing the album.
Heart felt indie folk rock from an Aussie quintet. Boy and bear started on stage straight away without so much as a hello but it was beautiful. Front man Dave Hosking in his rolled up, torn jeans and work boots with his unmistakable voice immediately went to work. These guys really connect with their music and it was intimate enough that it felt like watching a bunch of talented dudes jamming. The vibe of the whole night was awesome.
Through out the night there were some shenanigans with the crew coming on stage in dresses to do their thing. All our exes live in Texas joined the stage for the cover of fall at your feet. The show ended with “walk the wire” and had the whole crowd dancing and singing along.
These guys were amazing live and so humble, would totally see again.
