Q&A w/ Flaskas

Watch the video for ‘Afterglow’ below.

What is your favourite track to perform live?

We all love sharing ‘Afterglow’ our latest single as it’s a full funky grind on stage with loads of dynamics and just feels good to play.

Aside from other artists and music, what inspires you?

People inspire me big time. I love learning about the way others perceive life, their mannerisms, beliefs, their ways and watching people create a positive outlook and succeed in life. Nature is another big one the raw power, beauty and synchronicity of Nature is alluring, captivating and has so much to teach us.

Have you ever tried to learn a new instrument or technique and just flat out failed at it?

Hahah yer John Butler is one of our biggest inspirations and learning some of his technical masterpieces to cover is a feat in itself. Failed big time ha

Most people ascribe to one idea or another about how the universe began, what do you reckon about it all?

Creation is so vast, complex, humbling and darn right spectacular. My spin is that it all began in unison as a song. Many Creators all-creating as one.

What festival is #1 on your list that you’d love to play one day?

I reckon ‘Splendour In The Grass’ for a local festival is our jam and we would love to do set or two. Overseas you can’t go past ‘Glastonbury’… imagine all the people, the vibe yewww.

Without invoking genre, describe your music…

Our sun soaked salt-laced music is channelled from the heart for those creative souls ever-seeking a higher perspective. Our sound is fun, uplifting, powerful and invigorating with a touch of tribal spirit. Think ocean, sunsets, travelling, discovering, surfing, adventure, hearty good food ha, tribal drums, best mates,

How was your high school experience? Were you in a band?

Funny thing is that I grew up around music my whole upbringing with my Dad and Uncles all in bands. I didn’t even pick up a guitar, sing or do anything musical till about 7-8 years ago when I met a new group of musically inspired friends, travelled the world and came back to Aus with a fire burning inside of me. I really saw how powerful music is as a tool for communicating, healing etc so I sat down and taught myself how to sing, play 6 string, 12 string and lap steel slide guitars, didgeridoo, harmonica, banjo, and more. And here we are

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?

One thing I learn quickly is that yes everyone/ most can play and sing. The world is rich with talent and diversity. But there’s only one you in this world so that’s my motto I do what I feel and do it the best. That’s what makes ‘FLASKAS’ powerful. Four musicians doing and channelling their raw gifts in our own unique way. Our shows are all live no computers, loops, digital sounds or backing tracks just raw live original talent.

How would you describe ‘success‘ for your band?

Success at its core for us is all about having fun, staying present and connected as band and sharing our artistry from that space. The rest is all a bonus. This way of being sees us through the shows that are quiet to those that are raging
