Does each member of the band have a nickname? If yes, spill them! If not, please make them up right now!
Um well Jono’s second name is Gooley so that one takes care of itself. We call him fucky fucky crapheap – but thats an obvious one I guess. Will’s second name is Batrouney and we tend to call him Will because it is a tough one to work with you know? Like we have tried some shit, but we just can’t get anywhere. He will occasionally present something to the rest of us, but often it is not at the level. Tbh we barely see the guy. Simon? I dunno. Slammer.
What is your local scene like?
Nothing on the 05 acoustic scene. That remains unparalleled for mine. Jack Johnson, Matt Costa, Donavon Frankenrieghter, G Love, X Rudd, JBT (second trio), Ben Harper (El Chappo of this scene) Carus (Can’t forget the pawns of this time of fought and still fight valiantly) Obvs Missy Higgins a powerhouse then and now. The Waifs. Fark mang.
What is your favourite track to perform live?
Don Dale is nice to play live.
What are some of your earliest musical influences that have found their way into the music you’re currently making?
05 acoustic scene. Far out – it is an omnipresent force that just keeps coming up!! Like everyone of these questions for some reason 05 acoustic scene just pops right in. Flake obvs mam tune with a chorus to fkn die for. Kinda loses people with the funky outro, but that is the kind of risks they took back on 05. Matt Costs Mr Pitiful doesn’t quit. Huge first single from a disappointing second release. Frankenrieghter – I mean shit dawg, everything he touched turned to gold. QB #1 and the songs stand up. Melissa Higgins with Special Two and Nightminss Phwoarrrrr.
Care to give us a gear rundown?
Man. It is boring. I play fender deluxe tele, Slammer plays a Maton Tele or Cole Clark maybe cant remember. Fucky fucky crap heap plays a blue tele bass. Then there is standard delays and overdrive and fuzz and shit. Slammer has some cool pedals going at the moment. Will plays a DW performance kit I THINK.
What is the first song you ever wrote and did it make it onto a release?
Umm kinda. Probably made it to Myspace. It was called ‘Leaving Tracks’. Big tune.
Have you had the chance to play a show with any of your musical heroes? Who were they and what was that experience like?
Yeah we have played with The Vasco Era and it was beaut. Actually playing with them can be a distraction from their gig a bit which is a bit shit. Free ticket is good though.
What’s the best show you’ve been to this year?
Smallest Horse at Crowbar. Or Jen Cloher at Golden Plains playing Great Australian Bite.
Are you playing any shows anytime soon (if you live outside of Australia, do you have any plans for a trip down under)?
Yeah dawg go album tour in Oct/Nov.
How would you describe ‘success‘ for your band?
a million bux. Each. Car Ads. drug problems. Big recording budget/Songs/albums and concepts that become progressively boring and devoid of life. You know, Kings of Leon/Modest Mouse/Strokes/Every indie band that has ever gained success.
Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?
Smallest Horse, Neighbourhood Youth, Go Get Mum (also just wait for the 05 scene to come screaming back again.)
