QnA w/ Floods

All artists go through periods where they seem to lack creativity, when you’re experiencing one of these phases, what do you do to get yourself out of it?

Whenever we feel stuck or lacking creativity, we just keep playing no matter what and push through. Even if we make 50 bad songs, we’re going to make something that’s good eventually. It’s just about experimenting with different sounds and pushing yourself, don’t let a creativity block stop you.

Care to give us a gear rundown?

For sure! For synths, we use an AKAI MPK249. We combine analog tones based on Roland, Moog, and Dave Instrument synths. We build and mix the synths in the studio and use the MIDI controller for live shows. For guitar, we are running a Reverend Double Agent through an AC30. We have a lot of Boss pedals, like the DD-500 and RV-500, to get some more ambient sounds to blend with the synths.

There’s a full 80s/90s pop culture and music resurgence happening right now, are you into it?

We are super into the whole wave of bringing back 80’s tones into something current and relatable now. Synth tones that make you dance but also feel haunting are the BEST. It’s been fun reworking staple analog synths into something that fits our sound.

Not music related…. or a question, but we’d love to see and share an image of your pet/s…

Our pets are our #1 inspiration and the driving force behind the album. We would LOVE to share their pictures with you! Here are Roo (Jake), Tyke (Emily), and Meoward Stern (Sam) – in that order.

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be?

One song that we think defines our band and sound is “Chasing Lines”. Lyrically, it defines that album. It combines all of the elements that we wanted to include on the album and has an upbeat, electronic sound that you can dance to. We’re really excited to jam this song at shows.

Does your music have consistent lyrical themes or do they change from song to song?

They change from song to song, but keep the overall theme within the album. Finding yourself surrounded by your favorite people, late night hangs, growing through reckless behavior. We write about love, the things that keep you up at night and just being that age where it’s okay to mess up and have fun.

Who would play you in a movie about the band?

Sam – Michael Cera

Emily – Kristin Stewart

Jake – Jake Johnson

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

Cherry Pools, Cautious Clay, and Jack Harlow
