Kailynn- Snacks

Harry- H man foss toss

Tony-TBags

Zach- bingo boy

Yes! Tony plays in Motion City Soundtrack, Zach plays for Britney Spears, Kailynn was in black kettle and Harry would like you to know he was in the Beatles. But Zach actually DOES play for Britney Spears though.

All artists go through periods where they seem to lack creativity, when you’re experiencing one of these phases, what do you do to get yourself out of it?

We tend to create something really bad and then at least it stirs the creative juices.

How do you think social media has affected the Australian music scene?

I think social media made the whole world a lot bigger. Everyone is more accessible.

What is your local scene like?

Los Angeles had a little bit of everything for everyone. It’s huge.

What is your favourite track to perform live?

We like to play 15-17 months.

What are some of your earliest musical influences that have found their way into the music you’re currently making?

I think our common threads for music are the Beatles, Ben Folds, and the Ramones. We each branch out from there individually.

Aside from other artists and music, what inspires you?

Books, life and anxiety.

Do you have any in-band memes? Plzzzz share one.

We have in band words that make us giggle like: turtkies, puppis and a fictitious character named Jim the Screw.

What streaming sites do you think offer the most value to a band?

Spotify and D Sound.

Care to give us a gear rundown?

Kailynn: 63 jazz master, fender deluxe reverb or yamaha ac3r acoustic.
Harry: Gibson ripper on bass.
Zach: Gibson guitars, chapman guitars, elixir strings, soldano amps, bare knuckle pickups.
Tony: DW/PDP drums, sabian cymbals, pro mark drum sticks, Evans drum heads.

Have you ever tried to learn a new instrument or technique and just flat out failed at it?

There are tons of instruments we could fail at.

Most people ascribe to one idea or another about how the universe began, what do you reckon about it all?

We can’t all collectively agree how it started but we can all agree mutants or zombies are coming next.

All touring bands know that no two venues are created equal. What are some of the best rooms you’ve played and why?

The hi hat in Los Angeles is one of our favorites.

There’s a full 80s/90s pop culture and music resurgence happening right now, are you into it?

Yes 100 percent. It’s all that and a bag of chips.

Are there any band photographers that you’re into and would love to be shot by?

Annie Leibovitz!

What is the first song you ever wrote and did it make it onto a release?

(Kailynn) I wrote an EP when I was 13 and all those songs exist in the world. The first one I wrote was called “any day”.

If you HAD to choose, would it be; The Baby Sitters Club or Sweet Valley High? Please answer in as much detail as possible.

To be completely honest we read goosebumps and animorphs more than those! Sorry to be a let down.

What is the biggest challenge you have had to overcome as a band/artist so far?

The biggest challenge is that we live in different cities. Zach is in New York and the rest of us are in LA.

Fuck/Marry/Kill: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter?

Marry Twitter (it’s more honest) Fuck Instagram (it looks better) kill Facebook because let’s be real.

Recently, creating more diversity within the Aus music scene has a been a high priority for event organisers and music curators everywhere, what changes have you personally seen and how have they affected you/your band?

We have seen a rise of inclusivity here as well and we think it’s great. It has affected us a little seeing as we have a female front person but we think it’s important to make safe spaces for POC and LGBTQ people in the world of music.

What festival is #1 on your list that you’d love to play one day?

Warped tour (sad cries).

Without invoking genre, describe your music…

Milkshakes of Sadness with sprinkles of optimism.

How was your high school experience? Were you in a band?

We were all pretty much in bands and in “band” in high school. We were all in bands in high and actual high school band as well.

Not music related…. or a question, but we’d love to see and share an image of your pet/s…

Have you had the chance to play a show with any of your musical heroes?

Tony got to play drums with Braid, Harry got to play with Mocky, Zach got to play with Nuno Bettencourt and Keb Mo and we all think it was pretty amazing to be able to do that.

What was your first ever favourite song?

Kailynn- ain’t no mountain – Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell
Harry- love for sale by the talking heads
Zach- god only knows by The Beach Boys
Tony doesn’t remember his.

Lots of songs start out with a working title and are eventually renamed, what were some of the original names of your songs before they were complete?

We called when I’m with you “Disneyland.”

If you had to choose one song you’ve written that best defines your band which one would it be?

Small talk.

In this day and age where anyone is pretty much able to pick up an instrument, what would you say sets your band apart from the rest?

We think we have a good chemistry and our songwriting.

Does your music have consistent lyrical themes or do they change from song to song?

They change from song to song.

Favourite Simpsons episode? Discuss.

I don’t think we have a specific favorite! Harry’s favorite Simpsons bit is when they’re at a fork in the road that splits going to “Cleveland” or “Columbus” and they just turn around and go home.

What’s the best show you’ve been to this year?

Weird Al!

Where are people able to hear your songs?

Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp!

Are you playing any shows anytime soon?

We don’t have any plans for a tour in Australia although it would be amazing to come there someday! We are doing a full (US) national us tour in August and September.

What is your proudest moment/greatest achievement as a band?

Making a record together.

Beatles or Rolling Stones and why?

The Beatles because they’re better.

How would you describe ‘success‘ for your band?

Success is being able to do what you love for a living and offering to pick up the tab without having to check your bank balance first.

Do you believe in the term ‘sold out’?

When it comes to a record release party, yes.

Are you Pro or against streaming services and why?

Ultimately streaming is a great discovery tool but streaming seems to be unsustainable. Spotify thinks it’s product is spotify. Spotify’s product is music and they’re starving artists out of being able to support their business.

Who would play you in a movie about the band?

Maggie gyllenhaal would be Kailynn, Josh Hartnett would be Zach, Denzel Washington would be Harry and Danny Devito would be Tony.

Tell us 3 bands that we should be listening to/be keeping an eye out for?

Jesse Ruben, Joey Dosik, Modern Huge.
