Sarah Blasko today reveals the video for I Wanna Be Your Man, the new single to be lifted from her acclaimed Top 10 ARIA album ‘Eternal Return’.
The striking video is directed by award winning director and cinematographer Warwick Thornton (Samson & Delilah, The Sapphires) and features prominent Sydney performance artist and cult drag figure Aaron Manhattan.
Says Sarah of the song and video, “‘I Wanna Be Your Man’ – in other words “I want to be your equal or, better still, someone that you could look up to”. It’s something I’ve often found myself longing for in what has often been described as a “man’s world”. With the video, Warwick & I wanted to take the intention some steps further by bringing another perspective into the meaning of the song. To highlight the ambiguity that exists in what we describe as a “man” or a “woman” & in the realms of sexuality & desire. We also sought to make it clear that no one can speak for anyone else or perhaps ever fully comprehend their perspective, we can only allow others to have their voice & admire them for their differences as well as their similarities.”
It’s been a busy few weeks for Sarah – she was invited by Triple J to pay homage to the late David Bowie in Like A Version and is currently the Double J Artist In residence. She was also shortlisted for the 11th Australian Music Prize and has just been name checked by Elton John on US TV show, The Late Late Show, receiving global attention – watch the clip for Carpool Karaoke with Elton John and James Corden here.
